SOHO stands for “Small Office, Home Office”.
My name is Matthew Christiansen and I am a passionate
entrepreneur. Over 60% of the work opportunities and
income generated in the USA comes from small and mid
sized businesses. I have traveled to different countries
that do not have the opportunity to create small businesses.
It is my opinion that anyone who really sets their mind
to it and is willing to learn, take a few calculated
risks, and stick with it can succeed in owning their
own small company. This website is dedicated to providing
the resources that are needed to start a small office
or home office. This is not an inclusive website, but
provides great resources on the basics of starting a
home business.
I have also taken the time and dedicated a few pages
to list some of the better business ides that have highest
probability of success when starting. Structures such
as franchises dramatically increase the chance of success
and takes some of the risk and variables out of the startups
process. Also engaging in simple disciplined exercises
such as creating a business plan are also vital for success.
Don’t expect every day owning your own small
business to be a cakewalk. There will be great stress,
but there will also be great rewards and joy. One of
the things that I find most rewarding is being able to
control my own destiny and having immediate feedback
for my decisions. I once read a book that described Entrepreneurship
as “Sheer Terror”. It went on to talk about
how each day there is fear involved and this is a powerful
motivator. This is true, but the exhilaration of finding
success and knowing that you created this small company
and will reap what you plant is very rewarding.
So, now you have a computer (I hope), and you have
a desk and a chair, your next step is to find a remote,
good working environment that you can separate yourself
and distinguish between your work time and your personal
time. Write down al the resources you have, and then
match them to your business ideas. Using the resources
on this site and the linked sites you are well on your
way to having your own SOHO (Small Office Home Office)
company.
